Halloween can be playful without becoming a large production. Choose a small gathering, a few favorite decorations, and food you can set out before guests arrive.
Start with one cheerful focal point: a bowl of wrapped candy, a collection of masks, or a little display on the entry table. Keep decorations out of walkways and leave room for coats, drinks, and plates. Battery-operated candles can provide a warm glow without an open flame.
Dress up as much or as little as you like. A dramatic scarf or a favorite black outfit can feel festive without a full costume. Invite guests to do what feels comfortable to them, too.
The archive photographs offer a lively mix of ideas. Pick one that makes you smile, use what you have, and let conversation be the main event.
